It was the end of eighth grade and I had to start thinking about what high school I wanted to go to. I could either go to Buena or Foothill. I’ve heard a lot about both schools from my friends that went there. They both seemed like a good choice, but Foothill seemed like my kind of school.
Everyone in my middle school refers to Foothill as the “nerd school." So at the time I didn’t want to go to Foothill because of what my friends thought of it. Most of my friends from balboa already decided that they were going to Buena, except me. I was undecided. I didn’t care as much as other people whether they thought it was a “nerd school” or not. Anyways my mom wanted me to go to Foothill so if I got in that’s great and if I didn’t I would just go to Buena, so to me it’s a win win situation. I’m just thankful that I have the choice to choose what school I would attend for four years.
Of course with a choice comes a decision. Since I knew someone from both Buena and Foothill I thought I’d do some research. I’ve learned so much about both schools like the classes, teachers, and people at Buena and Foothill. When I compare Foothill to Buena I think that Buena is academically easier just because they don’t have big projects like the ninth grade project, and also I feel like Foothills more accepting for whom you are. One other aspect I really like is that Foothill is a really tiny school. When I used to drive past Buena I was so afraid that when it was the first day of school I would get lost but at Foothill my classes were very easy to find and it was just a relief.
Another big problem in this decision was that my head said Foothill, but my heart said Buena. Since I was in sixth grade I’ve been bragging that “I’m going to be a bulldog!” All my friends said the same thing too. My heart was pretty much stuck with that idea because I didn’t know I had a choice. So I heard about Foothill and my head thought it was the perfect school for me. Plus everyone knows what the nerds in high school become. In case someone doesn’t know nerds become your boss! So in the battle between my head and heart my head won.
In the end after I looked at my choices, asked my friends, and really thought about where I wanted to go I think I made the perfect choice. I love everything about Foothill, the teachers, my classes, and all of my friends. I am proud to say I go to Foothill Technology High School or the “nerd school”.
